Job summary

The Red Hat Consulting team is looking for new graduates to join us as Associate Consultants. In this role, you will serve a key role as passionate promoters of the adoption of Red Hat’s solutions for our customers by using your technical expertise, software development skills, and soft skills. As part of this role, you will join the Red Hat Consulting Launch Program, designed for early career consultants to be successful by focusing on your technical and non-technical skills. You’ll need to be based in one of the following cities, while traveling domestically to customer locations: New York, NY; Raleigh, NC; Chicago, IL; Austin, TX; Los Angeles, CA; or Washington DC and metro area

Primary job responsibilities

  • Be a respected Red Hat subject matter expert at the client site, addressing their technical, developmental, and strategic IT requirements 
  • Directly impact customer software specifications, designs, testing, and deployment of open source solutions
  • Work in dynamic environment to respond to customer challenges, project escalations, and process exceptions in a professional and flexible manner
  • Collaborate with Red Hat project teams to balance technical implementation and delivery with customer expectations


The program will guide you along your Red Hat journey in three phases:

  • Foundational Skills (Months 1-2):
  • Learn tools and technologies through enablements designed and taught by Red Hat Consulting experts
  • Enhance your skills by engaging in activities targeted to take what you already know and apply it to the professional setting
  • Experience Red Hat technologies and solutions and gain practical experience through in-person training and earn certifications in key technologies

Field Experience (Months 3-6):

  • Application of skills learnt in the first 2 months by using them on your first client project
  • Tackle problems in an innovative way in a team-based environment of Red Hat Consultants and clients as a hands-on-keyboard contributor
  • Become a Red Hat expert and a trusted advisor for clients by delivering complex solutions applied to real world problems
  • Expand a network of peers, mentors, and advisors that will accelerate your career through constant support and guidance
  • Continue learning and growing through Red Hat training and certifications, consulting-specific enablements, and more

Building Your Brand (Months 6-Your Career):

  • Grow your career through combining your personal talents and passions with the skills you’ve learned and establish your personalized career and development plans
  • Deliver on client projects as a technical contributor through being an expert on Red Hat technologies and software development principles  
  • Constant learning and growth in both technical and non-technical skills to create a well-rounded base for future career paths
  • Continue expanding your network – internal and external – to Red Hat through communities, clients, meetups, and a whole host of other opportunities

Required skills

  • Passion for solving real-world problems through understanding customer needs and constraints and solutioning through using technology
  • Knowledge of backend software development methodologies, frameworks, and development principles
  • Eager to dive deep into backend software development, IT automation, DevOps, and cloud infrastructure
  • Ability to remain well-organized in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment
  • Comfortable with intense collaboration to derive innovative solutions
  • Ability to interact directly with customers across roles and organizations and clearly communicate technical and non-technical concepts
  • Ability to learn quickly, grow, and adapt to new skills
  • Willingness to travel to client locations throughout the U.S. and Canada
