Proofreader – Remote Opportunity


HLK, a full-service advertising agency headquartered in St. Louis, is looking for an experienced proofreader to join our expanding team. This position may be based anywhere in the U.S. The proofreader will review text and layouts for overall quality assurance, which includes both technical correctness and consistency (e.g., spelling, punctuation, formatting), and touch projects from many different clients.


  • Check for grammar, spelling and punctuation
  • Conduct basic fact-checking (e.g., correct dates, names, statistics)
  • Ensure tone and style are consistent with the brand’s style
  • Review text and layouts for any typesetting or formatting errors or inconsistencies (e.g., bold, italics, links, capitalization)
  • Ensure brand guidelines are being followed
  • Ensure trademark usage is correct and following brand guidelines and trademark rules
  • Effectively prioritize work in a fast-paced environment


  • Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism or communications
  • Minimum of two years of experience (marketing department or ad agency experience a plus)
  • Experience working in Microsoft Office, Google Drive, Adobe Acrobat or other PDF reader preferred
  • Strong understanding of AP Stylebook (familiarity with Chicago Manual of Style and MLA a plus)
  • Ability to communicate clearly and efficiently in person, on paper and through digital means
  • Ability to give thorough attention to many projects in a given day and turn them around quickly and efficiently
  • Ability to prioritize requests according to client deadlines and the effort required to meet those deadlines
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Exceptional organizational skills
  • Proactive and self-motivated
